The longest footbridge in the Southern Hemisphere

Even though we have lived here for many years and thought we had a pretty good knowledge of the area, there is always something new to discover.  Northland is blessed with such a verity of places, geography, geology, activities, unusual and unexpected things that for sure there is always something just around the corner.

We recently came come across the longest footbridge in the Southern Hemisphere right here in Northland.  Whananaki is tucked away in one of the more isolated areas about 1 hours drive from 88 Lodge.  Cross the bridge and over the hill behind it there is yet another stunning Northland beach.

Most of our guests are tourists ‘doing’ New Zealand.  Inevitably they run out of time and equally inevitably the decision to come back again is made.  Therefore the length of stay is usually not enough to ‘do’ everything that Northland has to offer.  Recently we did however have a 21-night reservation.  They really wanted to thoroughly explore Northland and certainly gave that challenge a good go.  However they still did not get to this unique structure and yes they did say before leaving “We shall just have to come back again”.

It's not many who receive ‘HALL OF FAME’ status. This makes us a B&B not to be missed
