Kerikeri, Garden of National Significance.

There are four five star gardens in Northland, and all of them are within the beautiful Bay of Islands.  But only one of these has received its rating without a connection to the Bay’s history as birth place of the nation.

The Palmco display garden (which is located just a few minutes drive from 88 Lodge) has been reconfirmed as a Garden of National Significance by the New Zealand Gardens Trust.

The sub tropical garden fell just shy of receiving a six star or International Garden of Significance title.

Known as Kerikeri’s oasis of relaxation, entry is free and it is a complete delight to walk amongst some of the most stunning of garden landscapes.  It’s a little bit architectural, it’s sculptural and a real showpiece.  It has been a Garden of Significance since 2009 and is known for it’s excellent collection of palms, cycads and tree ferns.

If you are a gardener, or just appreciate beautiful places, Palmco is yet another reason to stay another day in Northland.  Staying at 88 Lodge and enjoying our gardens just adds to your wonderful experience of this beautiful part of New Zealand.  The other gardens of National Significance within Northland are those at Pompallier Mission in Russell, Waitangi Treaty House Gardens in Waitangi, and Kerikeri Mission Station in the Heritage Basin at Kerikeri.   All of them well worth a visit and even more reasons why time in Northland is never wasted.

It's not many who receive ‘HALL OF FAME’ status. This makes us a B&B not to be missed
